Some prayers don’t arrive with fireworks.
Sometimes they arrive as a quiet whisper that asks you to trust before you can see.

I’ve learned that God’s assignments rarely come with all the answers. More often, they come with an invitation to take the next faithful step.

If I’m honest, saying “yes” has never been the hard part for me.
Living out the “yes” is.

There are days when I wish God would hand me the entire blueprint. Show me every turn. Every obstacle. Every victory. Every lesson before I take the first step.

Instead, He gives me just enough light for today. I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about that lately.

The last few years have stretched me in ways I never expected. There were moments when I questioned if I had the right mindset. Moments when doors didn’t open. Moments when it felt like everyone else was moving ahead while I was simply trying to remain faithful to what God had placed in front of me.

What I’ve come to realize is this: Faith isn’t proven when the path is obvious. Faith is built when you keep walking without needing all the answers.

I’ve always believed basketball was bigger than basketball.

It’s why I coach.
It’s why I write.
It’s why I mentor.

The game has always been a classroom for something much greater.

Leadership.
Character.
Discipline.
Faith.

This season, God has entrusted me with a new assignment as the Head Girls Basketball Coach and a Leadership Instructor at Rutgers Preparatory School.

When I first sat with that reality, I didn’t immediately think about the title.

I thought about the responsibility.
Because every new assignment requires a new version of you.

Not a perfect version.
A surrendered one.
A disciplined one.

One that’s willing to keep listening for the quiet direction of the Holy Spirit, even when the world is shouting for faster results.

I’ve learned that discipline isn’t only about early mornings or extra workouts.
Sometimes the greatest discipline is staying where God has planted you until He says it’s time to move.
It’s resisting the urge to compare your journey to someone else’s.
It’s choosing obedience when comfort looks more appealing.
It’s trusting that what God is building in private is preparing you for what He’ll ask you to steward in public.

That isn’t always easy.

There were seasons when I wanted clarity more than I wanted growth. I wanted certainty more than surrender.

But looking back, I can see that every delay, every disappointment, every closed door was shaping the leader I needed to become before stepping into this next chapter.

That’s why this moment isn’t simply about coaching a nationally respected basketball program.

It’s about continuing the work God placed on my heart years ago: helping people discover who they’re becoming.

Whether I’m standing in a gym, teaching a leadership class, writing in this journal, or having a conversation with a young athlete, the assignment remains the same.

Teach with truth.
Lead with love.
Raise the standard.
Point people toward purpose.

I’ve come to believe that choosing ‘love’ isn’t the easy path.
It’s the faithful one.
It’s choosing discipline when excuses are available.
It’s choosing patience when you want progress.
It’s choosing obedience when you can’t yet see the outcome.
It’s trusting that God’s whispers are more trustworthy than your fears.

If you’re in a season where you’re waiting, questioning, or wondering if God has forgotten you, I hope this encourages you.

Don’t rush what He’s developing.
Don’t mistake quiet seasons for empty ones.
Don’t measure your calling by someone else’s timeline.

Keep showing up.
Keep doing the work.
Keep listening for His voice.

The assignment He’s preparing you for may be bigger than anything you could have imagined—but first, He has to prepare your heart to carry it.

I’m grateful for this new chapter.

Not because of the position.

But because it’s another reminder that God is faithful to complete what He begins.

So today, I’ll keep doing what I’ve always tried to do.

One prayer at a time.
One practice at a time.
One lesson at a time.
One faithful step at a time.

And every day, I’ll keep choosing ‘Love’.

Journal Reflection
Where is God asking you to trust the process instead of rushing the outcome? What would it look like to choose love in that place today?
